Nw Jcrsoy-Muss Jcrsoy-Muss Carol Ohmart, 19-15 win- ' ne'r was sent to the 1910 Pageant, where she won a $1500 scholarship ,md fifth place, and is now modeling model-ing for Milton Caniff in his comic strip, Steve Canyon. Miss Donna ' jean' Southwiek of Cedar City, !946 winner, will leave Salt Lake City in late August to represent ; utah in the 1947 "Miss America" Pageant. i the 1947 Centennial Exposition, Exposi-tion, now in progress, a contest will'be held Sept. 1-2-3-4 at which time another young lady will be selected as "Miss Utah" 1947-, and mil be sent to the "Miss America" Pageant in September, 1948. The lucky winner will be furnished fur-nished three formal dresses and have her expenses paid to Atlantic City, as well as being royally entertained en-tertained while there. In addition, she will have the opportunity of winning one of the sixteen scholarships scholar-ships from $1,000 to $5,000 to continue con-tinue development of her talents. In addition to the young lady who will be selected as Miss Utah, every girl entering will be given special recognition. There is no charge for entering the contest, but it will be necessary foreach organization to assume the expenses expens-es of the entrant they sponsor. ' The purpose of the Miss America Ameri-ca Contest is to find intelligent, healthy, beautiful and talented young women who desire special training or a college education and to assist them, through scholarships, scholar-ships, to develop their talents- so that profitable careers may be pos- fMblo or them. Organizations-sponsoring Organizations-sponsoring preliminary contests j re cautioned that the American Public will only approve and support sup-port local competitions when conducted con-ducted in the 8ame g.ood tMt Nafonal Finals are conducted. I-urthermore, the typical American Rirl will only be interested in par- -cpating in a dignified, construc- tivo competition. The following requirements are made of Miss America finalists- 1. Be a citizen of the city, state or territory in which local contest heId- She may not compete in more than one Official State or yeTr Preliminary Contest each 2. eB single and never have been married, divorced or had marriage annulled. 5 3. Be between the ages of 18 ahd 28 on opening date of National Finals. Fi-nals. 4. Be of good character and possess pos-sess poise, personality, intelligence, charm and beauty of face and figure. fig-ure. 6 5. Possess Talent, such as singing, sing-ing, dancing, dramatic ability Playing musical instrument or give a three-minute talk on the career she wishes to pursue. 6. Must not be under contract -o nor under the legal management of any firm or individual prior to the signing of her contract as a competitor for the title of Miss America. 7. Must give no commercial endorsement nor permit her photograph pho-tograph to -be used in connection with any advertising other than that associated with the local or state competition and approved by the Franchise Holder, except with the permission of the Miss America Ameri-ca Pageant at Atlantic City. 8. Must agree that upon being named "Miss America", or one of the recipients of a scholarship award to remain under contract to the Miss America Pageant for one year after the National Finals, or until released by the Miss America Pageant. No Agency Commission is charged by the Miss America Pageant. 9., Any girl who has competed for the title of "Miss America" at Atlantic City will not be eligible to win a state, city or territorial contest con-test affiliated with the Miss America Ameri-ca Pageant, nor compete in Atlantic Atlan-tic City for the title of Miss America Amer-ica a second time. |
