Show 1381 DATE AND FIG TORTE , When special company is coming com-ing and there must be a special dessert which will please even the most cranky of palates, you'll want to turn to Date and Fig Torte Vi cup fortified margarine cup granulated sugar cup light molasses (or honey or corn syrup) 2 egg yolks, well beaten 1 cup nut meats coarsely , chopped 13 cup bread crumbs 3 tablespoons flour 1 teaspoon baking powder teaspoon salt Vi. teaspoon cinnamon 1 cup dates, figs, chopped together . M cup milk Cream the margarine, add the sugar gradually and mix. Then add. the molasses (or honey or corn syrup) and mix well. Add the egg yolks, well beaten. Mix nuts, baking bak-ing powder, bread crumbs, flour, salt, cinnamon. Then add the chopped figs and dates and again mix well. Add the first mixture along with the milk. Mix well. Pour into fluted pie plate. Bake in moderate oven (250 F.) 30 minutes. min-utes. Top with meringue and bake an additional 20 minutes. For meringue: beat 2 egg whites until fluffy, then continue to beat, adding add-ing 4 tablespoons sugar gradually.
