Wy LUCILLE OAKLEY "Blessed is the man that walk-ot walk-ot h not in the council of the ungodly, un-godly, nor standeth in the way ol siimors, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful, but his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night." Psalm I. This bit of scripture coming from David, I Psalms, gave the following meaning to me: The man who does not listen to the teachings of the ungodly, who lets the temptations of sin pass by, who picks his associates and does not choose the scornful, and receives joy in obeying God's laws and does obey them both day and night, is the man who in the end will be greatly rewarded and receive re-ceive a fuller and happier life. A man can go with a crowd and be with them, but he needn't be of them if they are leading a sinful life. You can be with the group and be a leader for high ideals and a high standard of living, but if the group goes astray you don't have to follow and be one of them. But this very thing is taking place today and causing ruination to happiness simply because a man or woman chooses scornful associate and then follows their ungodly paths of life. If, when we meet this kind of person, we could be man enough not to follow his wicked counsel, but remain within our own beliefs and help him to see the truth also, the world and you and I would be happier today. However, the trouble lies in the fact that the greatest share of us do not have the will-power to resist the temptations of evil and therefore we do get on the road of the ungodly. un-godly. I believe of all the things Mr. Tew has taught us in our Church History class, one particular phrase has impressed me most that deals with this very problem and that is: "Never do anything or go anywhere that you can't ask God to be your companion." This seems to me an excellent motto to live by. Figures on the mounting highway high-way toll show it is as much as one's life is worth to venture into the streets, and steeplejacking may yet be listed with the safer trades. Then there's the loving type wifey who puts hubby's carpet slippers on him when he comes home in the evening and hides his shoes until next morning. o A bachelor is a man who has no one to share with him the troubles trou-bles he doesn't have. |
