Show Mapleton, First Ward Tangle In Crucial Battle Here Saturday Winner of the Final Round Opener Will Be Virtually Assured Kolob Stake Basketball Title; Game Time Set for 8 P. M. The First ward M Men will defend their Kolob stake basketball title of last year against the contending con-tending Mapleton warders in a crucial contest here Saturday, February 8, at 8 o'clocki in the new high school gym. Starting the final round of M Men play, Saturday's game, as far as most followers are concerned, will be the title game since both teams have romped over the two other ward rivals in previous league encounters. Mapleton defeated the First ward team in its league opener this season and held the local quint for three quarters before going down to defept in the second sec-ond contest. Saturday's all-important cage attraction promises plenty of exciting basketball since the winner will virtually assure itself it-self a spot in the division six tournament early in March. This year's tournament will be played either in Spanish Fork, where it has been held for the past several years, or in Springville, depending on the decision of the divisional board. The title - seeking Mapleton riuint will probably depend on Nielsen, Whiting and Snow to carry car-ry their victory hopes. These f three cagers are dangerous scoring scor-ing threats and will be marked men in the titular battle. Holley, shifty forward; Allen, small but elusive pinch-hitter, and Plumlee, fighting guard, will be in there battling for stake honors when the two clubs meet. First ward fans will be counting count-ing on the Olsen boys to do most of thpir scoring duties. Bird, Cher-rington, Cher-rington, and E. Child on the guard line, will attempt to keep the opponents op-ponents at bay. D. Brown, W. Weight and C Childs will also be counted on to do their share of scoring to help put the title back in the First ward. C. Weight, G. Weight, and Jones, who have played play-ed some nice ball, will also be ready for Saturday's outstanding cagefest. The game Is free to the public and fans are promised plenty of action-crammed basketball in the crucial league encounter. Mapleton will play the Fourth ward here tonight at 8 p. m. in the final second round battle. |
