Stanley Dunford, district attorney for the Fourth Judicial district, lias announced his candidacy candi-dacy for the nomination on the Democratic ticket to succeed himself him-self in that office. He is now completing com-pleting his first term in that capacity. ca-pacity. Mr. Dunford has been engaged in the general practice of law at Provo for the past seventeen years, and has established himself in a thriving practice. He has had considerable experience in the administration ad-ministration of criminal law, having hav-ing served two years as Deputy county attorney of Utah county, four years as county attorney of RUlarly effective in this district. He has contributed greatly to its success. In announcing his candidacy, Mr. Dunford said: "One of the most important public functions of government is the administration of the criminal law. It has two primary objectives. First, it must be administered in a thorough manner to the point of guaranteeing guarantee-ing protection to society at large against the acts of those who, for one cause or another, violate the standards of social conduct and social so-cial living. Second, it must be administered ad-ministered in a judicious manner to the point of contributing as far as possible to the fundamental rehabilitation re-habilitation of the criminal himself, him-self, and his restoration to lawful civic living as a contributor to the general well-being of society. It is difficult in any given case to ascertain just what treatment of the criminal will contribute most to each objective without encroachment en-croachment upon the other. The prosecutor has a much greater opportunity op-portunity to study the crime and its social effects, and to study the criminal and the extent of his psychological responsibility than' has the court or the arresting and investigating officer. Therefore, it is necessary that he be trained and experienced in order that society might receive the greatest benefit with the least injury to the individual indi-vidual from his discharge of his duty. I have tried to fit myself through training and study for the discharge of this responsibility, and, by the grace of the people, I have been granted nearly ten years of experience. My heart is in this work. Nevertheless, I realize, that in announcing my candidacy for re-election, I am asking the public to place its stamp of approval upon my efforts, and it is therefore there-fore with the sincerest hope for that approval that I offer my services ser-vices to the people of this Judicial District for another term of four years. I believe that my record in this office will establish my devotion devo-tion to my duty as well as it will establish my capacity and ability to discharge it." Nomination Sought . . . S - .
