Show AuniDer l wenty-.Mne Many Pioneer Day Celebrants Spend Twenty-Fourth at Mapieton -n Cool Holiday Enjoyment Afforded Many 24th Observers At Annual Canyon Sportsmen's Outing Practically all of the Pioneer Day celebrants of Springville spent the twenty-fourth participating in the big celebration held at Mapieton or camping at rthe new beautiful Palmyra Park up Diamond Fork with the sportsmen sports-men at their annual Sportsmen's outing. At Mapieton the featured events were a miniature parade in the evening, a big jamboree boxing and wrestling carnival, horse and bicycle races, ball games, and dancing. A program at 10 a. m. in the new church amusement hall featured fea-tured a patriotic program of fine speakers and musical numbers and in the afternoon the children participated par-ticipated in competitive races. Concessions, which were open all day, added to the enjoyment of the large crowd that attended from Springville, Mapieton, Spanish Span-ish Fork and other surrounding cities. The celebration was under the direction of the officers of the Sunday school and the funds will be used to help pay for the new church. Sponsored by the Springville Wildlife Federation, he sportsmen's sports-men's outing up Diamond Fork afforded af-forded cool holiday enjoyment to many local towuspeple who went up Tuesday night for camping and many who went up early Wednesday Wed-nesday morning. Competitive contests throughout the day highlighted activities, with prizes for the various events being contributed by Springville business houses. Expenses of the outing were defrayed de-frayed to some extent by a concession con-cession stand erected at rh nnrlr for the enjoyment of all sportsmen sports-men present. A number of Springville citizens spent the sizzling holiday at Ogden Og-den and Salt Lake City enjoying the many phases of the mammoth Covered Wagon Days celebrations sponsored by those cities. At Ogden, Og-den, Springville's own drum major, ma-jor, Miss Jettie Jacob, led the Ogden Og-den parade, and many Springville people acknowledged Miss Jacob's excellent work with shouts and cheers. . |
