Show Miss Jettie Jacob Leads Pioneer Day Parades Former Springville High Drum Major Receives Exclusive Honor of Leading Ogden Pioneer Day Parades Bedecked in a snappy, purple satin uniform, the high-stepping drum majorette, Jettie Jacob, appeared appear-ed July 23 and 24 as leader of the Ogden Annual Ploner Day Celebration parades. Known as one of the outstanding outstand-ing drum majors throughout the west, Miss Jacob, Springville high school graduate, represented Utah as "All-State Drum Major" at the Tournament of Roses celebration at Pasadena for the past two years. The first year she received a medal for her work, and this year she was awarded a 20-inch gold trophy, which was the highest high-est award given. In a recent band parade in Southern California, she was drum major leading the Compton college col-lege 132-piece band, for which she received an 18-inch cup with the inscription "Highest Excellence in Drum Majoring, 1940." In 1938, Miss Jacob led the Bell high school band on Broadway in Los Angeles, competing with 98 bands from all parts of the United Unit-ed States. Of the 98 bands competing, com-peting, Miss Jacob, representing Bell high school, was interviewed by Mayor Shaw who congratulated her on her excellent handling of the band. In 1939, leading the Springville high scohol band, Miss Jacob received re-ceived highest rating of all drum majors competing and the Springville Spring-ville band received the highest score given to bands by Judge Yost of Fort Douglas. She was also chosen as drum major of the "All-Star Girls' Band" that appeared at the fair last year. Commentator Evelyn Hansen of radio station KOVO interviewed the outstanding drum major and commended her at the time on the "hit" she made leading the Springville Spring-ville Fourth of July parade. KLO in Ogden also interviewed Miss Jacob recently. Miss Jacob, with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Byron Jacob, were guests of the Ogden Knitting Mills at Hotel Ben Lomond in Ogden, "with the Knitting Mills acting as her sponsor in the Pioneer Day parades. |
