It's likely to be close so we must do everything in our power to get everything possible vote. We haven't anything any-thing to spare. How shall we go about winning? At Chicago, the delegates decided the best way to win was to nominate a strong candidate frpm New York as this state must be carried. Dewey, therefore, was nominated. Warren of California was offered the second place because it looked like good strategy. When he refused, it was the next best move to nominate Bricker of Ohio as he was a strong man and could help carry the Middle West. OPPORTUNITY TO ELECT In Utah, it looks like we have an excellent opportunity opportun-ity to elect the entire ticket, if we don't make too many mistakes. Above all, we can't afford to make a mistake on the Governorship, the most important state office. To win, we must either carry Utah, Salt Lake and Weber counties or cut the Democratic vote to a new low. Re- . member these counties have been heavily Democratic in the past. Following the strategy of the National Convention, we should nominate a central cen-tral Utah man to hold our own in that section. It has about three-fourths of the total vote so it cannot be ignored. Reed Vetterli of Salt Lake is the only man available avail-able from that area. It is admitted that he is honest and able and when his vote getting ability is compared with his rival, he has the better of the argument. VOTE RECORD Here is the record1 Vetterli, in 1942, running for Congress in the 2nd district, led the Republican ticket in Salt Lake County by 4028 votes. He made a gain of 9.6 over the whole 2nd Congressional District as compared with the vote , cast in 1940. A gain of 6 over 1942 will put the 2nd Congressional District safely in the Republican column. VETTERLI CAN DO THIS he gained approximately 10 last election. In 1940, J. Will Robinson, the Democratic nominee, walked away with the election with a majority of 36,542. Vetterli in 1942 cut Mr. Robinson's margin to 8,992 or approximately one-fourth of his 1940 majority. Vetterli in 1942 cut Congressman Robinson's Salt Lake County margin to 6,081 as compared with a margin of 80,431, which gave Robinson only one-fifth of his 1940 majority. J. Bracken Lee, running for Congress in the First District in 1942, a Republican stronghold, made a gain of seven per cent over the 1940 vote. Had he made the same percentage of gain as Vetterli made in the 2nd Congrsslonal .District, he would have been elected Congressman. Con-gressman. Ordinarily, we wouldn't be boosting a Salt Lake man, but in this case, we are trying to look the situation squarely in the face from a practical, cold-blooded point of view. Personalities are not involved. DEWEY, WARREN, MADE GOOD The Democratic candidate will be a Salt Lake man Maw or Child. A Democratic inter-party fight makes it likely we can win if we nominate Vetterli. The Governor is the chief Law Enforcement officer of the State, so Vetterli with his experience in this field should make a good Governor. Remember that Governors Dewey and Warren were law enforcement officers before becoming Governors. Vetterli worked with both these men on law enforcement enforce-ment when he was in the Federal Service. They have been outstanding Governors. Vetterli has had the same training his age is near Dewey's; and in all other ways he measures up to the position. I We have no private axes to grind, but we are interested in the good of the State and the party. We urge Republicans of Utah County to vote for Reed Vetterli next Tuesday.
