Show City Enters Borid Drive Contest Springville Must Sell $50,000 More Bonds J War Finance Committee Asks Additional E.F ' Bonds In "Mayor Week" Drive To Help Place the State, County And City Ove&V i As the all-important Fifth Victory War Loan reaches the fina. week, Springville has been called upon by the War Finance Committee Com-mittee to sell a minimum of $50,000 more in E. F. and G bonds during the week. To stimulate interest in the bond campaign, a contest is on between Springville and Spanish Fork with the mayor of each town involved in a wager measuring measur-ing the patriotism of his respective respec-tive city. The week has been designated as "Mayor's Bond Week" and the mayors have been given the responsibility re-sponsibility of putting their respective re-spective cities over the top. At a Recent meeting of the city mayor, members of the city council coun-cil and heads of various departments, depart-ments, together with the general Bond committee and members of the ladies' division bond-selling Our Mayor Is On The Spot; Let's All Help Mayor Emil Ostlund, Springville, Spring-ville, is on the spot. If he loses a wager on his home city's bond drive during this, "Mayor's "May-or's Bond Week," he must mow the lawn at the Spanish Fork ' city park . . . but on the other oth-er hand, if Springville wins, Mayor George E. Larson will have to mow the grass for Springville. Each town's quota for the week has been set at a minimum mini-mum of $50,000, so let each buy an extra bond and watch Spanish Fork's mayor mow our lawn. campaign, it was disclosed that while Springville had gone far over the top during the Fifth Victory Vic-tory War Loan drive, the sale of individual bonds is comparatively low. Members of the women's volunteer volun-teer organization reported 100 per cent of the homes visited with but a few call-backs, so it is now up to the individuals to see that Springville reaches this week's quota. Latest reports on the progress of the drive in the state indicate that several million dollars in bonds must yet be sold before Utah goes over the top. Utah county also lacks considerable to meet its quota, and the cooperation coopera-tion of every city in the county Is urgently needed. Springville is to be commended for the fine efforts made thus far in the drive, the mayor said. And now that the city has been called upon by the War Finance Committee Com-mittee to sell a minimum of $50,000 more in bonds, it is the patriotic duty of every individual to respond with the purchase of an extra bond. A free picture show is being offered of-fered the purchasers of bonds this week and also bonds will be sold at the local theater this evening eve-ning at the time of the free picture pic-ture show. Women volunteer workers who have made a house-to-house canvass can-vass in the interest of the bond-selling bond-selling campaign are also being given a free ticket for Thursday evening in appreciation of their efforts. The women volunteer workers are to get the tickets from their respective ward Relief Society presidents. Mayor Ostlund reports that the city and organizations have responded re-sponded in a magnificent manner to the Fifth War Loan as well as to other war-effort drives, and many individuals have also exhibited exhib-ited a fine spirit of cooperation with the purchase of individual bonds, but more are needed and it is"to be hoped that Springville will not fail in raising the necessary neces-sary $50,000 or more to help put the city, county and state over the top. |
