Mr. Cannon was elected to the State Legislature from the Second Sec-ond Salt Lake District in 1940 and re-elected in 1942. He has served in. two regular and three special sessions. As a member of the minority party he sponsored tax reduction measures, and was one of the original backers of the Joint Legislative Leg-islative Budget Committee. He is also a member of the subcommittee subcommit-tee investigating the Utah Central Vocational School at Provo. Mr. Cannon believes that Congress Con-gress should provide a means of keeping members better informed on the actual needs of government; govern-ment; that it should call a halt on centralization of bureaucratic control in Washington and return the government to the people. He maintains the view that 12 years is "too long" for a man to hold one position. Born in Salt Lake City July 5, 1906, Mr. Cannon is a member of a pioneer Utah family. His greatgrandfather, great-grandfather, Orson Pratt, was a member of the territorial legislature. legisla-ture. Mr. Cannon was educated in the schools of Davis county, L.D.S. From 1926-29 he served serv-ed on a mission for the L.D.S. church in France, Switzerland, and Germany. He has been active in various ward and stake capacities capaci-ties and is at present a member of the Ensign Stake Sunday school Board. He is an employee of the Utah Copper Company and an apartment apart-ment operation. He married Fay Allred of Pleasant View. They reside re-side at Salt Lake with their two sons and daughter. |
