Show Ladies Literary Club Hears Fine Program An interesting meeting for members mem-bers of the Ladies Literary club was held last Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Wm L. Schrei-ner. Schrei-ner. Mrs. Gene Johnson, club president, presi-dent, was in charge. The program featured a review of the book, "President's Lady," by Irving Stone, given in fine manner by Mrs. F. C. Packard. The book was of the life of Andrew Jackson and his wife Rachel from the time they met until he was elected president pres-ident of the United States. I Lawrence and Margaret Schreiner, children of the hostess, entertained with piano numbers. At the close of the program, Mrs. Harold Christensen, recently elected state president of Feder- ated Women's clubs, was asked to give informally some of the highlights high-lights of her recent trip to Indianapolis, Indian-apolis, Ind., where she attended the" national convention of Federated Feder-ated Women's clubs. Mrs. Christensen Chris-tensen described the convention as most glamorous and informative. She stressed the point which was emphasized at the meetings that Washington neds a house-cleaning and it was the responsibility of the women of the nation to work for that cleaning. She touched briefly on points made by national figures who addressed the various meetings and told how ladies of various sections of the country presented their reports. She told briefly how a small group of young club members had gone into a negro ne-gro district and had sponsored recreational re-creational facilities and other improvements im-provements to win the $10,000 national na-tional comunity service award. In recognition of the honor received re-ceived by Mrs. Christensen in being be-ing elected state president, the club presented her with a gift. Preceding the club program, the hostess served a nicely arranged tray lunch. |
