I It if, 'V f ' i Ik v.- i Kf.-.-t'- i i; 1 Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Smoot, nee Marian Bird Marian Bird-Douglas Smoot Wedding Highlights Social Events of Week In a pretty autumn setting emphasized in floral decorations and bridal attire, Newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Smoot greeted their many friends and relatives at a reception on Wednesday Wed-nesday evening of last week in the Third-Ninth ward church. The lovely young bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Bird of this city and Douglas' parents par-ents are Mr. and Mrs. Douglas P. Smoot also of SpringviUe. They wore married in the Salt Lake temple on Tuesday, September 15. A beautiful Valencia white lace sown over satin was chosen by the bride for her wedding attire. It was designed with long lace sleeves, tight fitted bodice and a sheer yoke with dainty trim of sedd-pearls and sequins. Her veil of sheer illusion was fashioned to a Juliet cap which was also trimmed trim-med with seed-pearls. She held a white satin -Bible on which was an orchid with streamers of white satin ribbon knotted with stephanotis. steph-anotis. Joy Fullmer, maid of honor, wore a coat style dress of green changeable change-able taffetta over a lighter green underskirt and she carried a nosegay nose-gay of chrysanthemums encircled with rust shirred net with bronze streamers. Further emphasizing 'he fall color scheme were the bridesmaids gowns. Worn by Bon-nie Bon-nie Ames! Nelda A. Behrman, Grace Ann W. Thomas, Mary Jane Bird and Marlene Stewart, they ere of rust faille taffetta with Jpricot-color underskirts designed fmilar to those of the maid of honor. Rodney Burt did best man duties '"n Richard Bird and Kathleen Mokes were train-bearers. Others in the receiving line in- eluded the parents of the newly- weds, Mrs. Bird appearing in a Rembrant original of bronze taffetta taf-fetta with bead trim, while Mrs. , Smoot chose a cinnamoncolored taffetta with net trim. Their corsages cor-sages were of whits gardenias and' talesman roses. Receptionists were Mr. and Mrs. George Bird, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Johnson, while Mrs. Wallace Bird, Mrs. Keith Bills and Marilyn CI egg j attended the guest books. Ushers included Allen Klauck, Boyd Friel, Robert Shipp and Gary Water-strap. Water-strap. , Mrs. Lois J. Thorpe, Mrs. Phyllis Smoot taking ! care of the gift register. Leland and Calvin Bird, Robert and Paul 'Johnson, Michael Johnson and Linda Bird assisted with the-gifts. Mrs. Ed Williams, Mrs. Reed Johnson, Mrs. Frank M. Nelson attended at-tended the trousseau room. The table setting was displayed on a beautiful Italian cut-work cloth brought from Sorento and given to the couple by the bride's parents. par-ents. A large doll which had been handed down to Marian from her Grandmother Bird, was dressed like the bride and attracted much attention in the trousseau room. Presiding in the dining room were Mrs. Leon Bird, Mrs. Howard Maycock, Mrs. DelMoine Chris-tensen, Chris-tensen, Mrs. Fred DeLude, while serving was by Colleen Fielding, Geniel Felix, Afton Maycock, Gen-Wimmer, Gen-Wimmer, Nancy Packard, Connie and Arleen Bird, Janet Robertson, Carol Smoot and Phyllis Swenson. A mirrired setting with crystal candelabra was provided for the r.-ctangle wedding cake which was of this week and will be at home at 145 East Center St. Douglas ! plans to continue his studies at j the Brigham Young university. all white with silver tear-drop trim. A cluster of wedding bells with silver and white streamers was in the heart-shaped enclosure on the top and sprays of green leaves were the only colar acecnt. A single large dahlia in yellow or bronze centered each serving table. Musical numbers during the reception re-ception were furnished by Glen Law at the organ, Mrs. J. Lewis Bird, Mrs., Loyd Bird and Mrs. Hyrum Jones, string music. Arch Williams of Payson was master of ceremonies for the program pro-gram which included: Vocal solos, Mrs. R. W. Bradford, Mrs. Orvil Clark, Mrs. William Christmas. Dr G. B. Orton, Kae Weight and Don Humphrey. Accompanists were Mrs. Loyd Bird, Mrs. Ed Forshee and Mrs. Dean Jensen. A toast was given to the bride by Mrs. David Bowen and to the groom by Ray Klauck. Invocation was by R. W. Bradford Brad-ford and benediction was offered by Mr. Rasmussen. Following the wedding, members of the wedding party were entertained enter-tained at a dinner given by parents par-ents of the bridegroom in Salt Lake City. Table decorations centered cen-tered around a crystal bowl of roses with silver bells tied with pink satin streamers. These with matching place cards were made bv Mrs. Edwin Johnson. After the wedding reception, the couple left on a honeymoon trip to California, the bride wearing ! a navy all-over lace with blue ac-I ac-I cessories for her going away.
