Show City Council Goes Over Improvements Past and Future, at Monday Meeting I Routine business comprising the opening of bids for supplying city oil and gasoline, traffic and other ' lights on main street and recent 1 citv improvements in the city came in for discussion at the Council meeting this week. Due to the gas war, it was decided de-cided to reject all bids to supply the city with gas and oil until a later date. Three companies, the Utah Service, Golden Eagle and Springville Garage entered bids. It was brought out in the meeting meet-ing that in as much as the actu- I ated semi-traffic light at the intersection inter-section of Main and Center streets has proved so successful that similar sim-ilar lights would be placed at .the intersections of Main and Second South and at Main and Fourth South. The lights are to be installed in-stalled by the state road commis- S' Harold Whiting reported that he had contacted state road authorities authori-ties in regard to placing 'sodium vapor and mercury vapor lgUon Springville's main thoroughfare ad that state road men reported they are still working on details and they would present plans m the very near future. The city electric light department depart-ment has been instructed to con- tact telephone officials in regard to joint use of some of the poles in the city, it was reported at the j meeting. It was brought to the attention of councilmen that the project of installing new drinking fountains along Main street was nearing completion. The fountains have been placed in front of the Second-Eighth Second-Eighth ward church; in front of Safeways, on the corner of Main and Second South and at the Bank comer. One or two others will be placed later. They were designed by L. J. Whitney, city engineer, and the cast stone for the fountain proper was made by the Eugene Johnson company. Building of bridges over the gutters near Safeway Safe-way and at the Fire hall were notable improvements reported completed at the council meeting. The council also reviewed regulations regu-lations In connection with the city election noting that heads of parties par-ties should place in the hands of city officials, the names of judges by September 29. The city appoints the judges later. Also it was noted that anyone nominated by petition or primary for a city office have until October 19 to file with the city recorder. |
