Show Springville Proud To Claim New Gov. Geo. D. Clyde Springville has had the honor of claiming many prominent citizens citi-zens in almost every phase of accomplishment, ac-complishment, in art, music, business bus-iness and industry, but not until Tuesday's election has a native son reached the high pinnacle of Governor of the State of Utah. Springville is proud to say that George Dewey Clyde was bom in this city, a son of stalwart citizens Mr. and Mrs. Hyrum Clyde. He attended public schools and high school here being an honor student in his graduating class. After high school days, he went to Logan to attend the USAC, graduating from that institution and later becoming dean of the School of Engineering. While in college, he married Ora Packard, daughter of Mrs. Phoebe Packard of this city, who attended the BYU and tiecame a teacher. They made their home in Logan while he attended- college and their five sons and daughters were born there. After he became director of the Utah Water and Power Board, they moved to Salt Lake City. The governor-elect and his wife have always made frequent visits to Springville spending the time with his brothers Wilford W. Clyde and Edward Clyde and families and Mrs. Clyde's mother and brothers bro-thers and sisters. Citizens of the. new governor's home town join in wishing him continued success in the highest office in the state of Utah. |
