BYU Opens Schedule Saturday Nite With New Mexico at Provo Field BYU's Cougars will open their 1954 grid season this Saturday night at the Y stadium beginning at 8 p.m. against the New Mexico Lobos. BYU has served in the role of a spoiler so far as New Mexico is concerned the past3 two seasons. Two years ago, the Lobos opened the conference season sea-son in Provo, and fell to the Cats 14-10, their only loss of the season. Last year, at Albuquerque, the Cougars battled the Lobos to deadlock dead-lock in another surprise for them. Although tabbed as the cellar team again this season, the Cougars Cou-gars are out to capture the title of spoiler if nothing else and are showing fine spirit and enthusiasm in their daily drills. Coach Atkinson Atkin-son has a more veteran aggregation aggrega-tion this season and will probably stick pretty close to the same offensive of-fensive setup as last year, using the straight and split T formations. forma-tions. Season tickets for the five home-game home-game schedule are on sale at the Fieldhouse ticket office on the Y campus. Miss Mary Boyer has had as her guests recently three of her nephews, neph-ews, all sons of her sister, Mildred, of Tuscon. There were Jarre tt Jar-vis Jar-vis and wife and family, who had been to see relatives in Connecticut and stopped here enroute home; also Boyer Jarvis, who teaches in Dartmouth College in Hanover, N. H., and George Jarvis, of Mesa, who was on his way to Northwestern Northwes-tern University where he has a scholarship. During their stay here, they also visited other relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Sibbald Reid have as house guests this week longtime long-time friends, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Doug-las Campbell of Los Angeles, California. |
