Show Springville Man's Art Goes to Jackson, Miss. Hughes Curtis, Springville's talented tal-ented sculptor, this week received a letter which he prizes among many courtesies and compliments he has received on his work. A tourist stopped recently at Monty's Cafe, where some of Hughes work has been exhibited, and admired his "Saddlin . Up," and after a talk with Monty, E. S. Groesbeck, who is incidentally president of the Chamber of Commerce Com-merce and could give the tourist first hand information on our Springville artists, the tourist purchased pur-chased the statuette titled "Saddlin "Sad-dlin Upk" When the piece of art arrived the man who signed his name, Stuart C. Irby of the Irby Construction Co., (Power Line contractors) con-tractors) of Jackson, Miss., wrote to Mr. Curtis stating that the piece of art had a prominent place just back of his desk and was being admired by the many visitors to his office. He further stated that he "desired to become better acquainted ac-quainted with Hughes, as "you certainly cer-tainly have the insight and ability to record the feelings and mood of your subject." The tourist was unable to get into the art building he stated as it was a holiday, the day he was in Springville but he said that one of these days he hoped to return and in the meantime valued his newly acquired statuette as "one of my most prized possessions." |
