Show Guard Open House Proves - Popular A capacity crowd of interested parents and boys of draft age crowded into Memorial hall Thursday Thurs-day night to attend the openhouse given by the local national guard unit. The guard unit (Co. A, 1457 Engineers Combat battalion) gave 15 minutes of close order drilling after which the group inspected the equipment and tools used by the guard. An explanation of the advantages of being a member of the guard were explained and Sterling Price, local member of the draft board, spoke briefly. A film entitled "This Is Your America" was also shown after which question and answer period per-iod was carried out under Lt. Allan Stewart,'" commanding officer of-ficer of the local guard and re-frieshments re-frieshments were served. It was pointed out that no definite def-inite date has been set for the local unit for active duty, but five months of training would be given them after word is received making it some time before the unit would be in active service. A 28-week training period is also given the men after the five months period expires. |
