Show j, One out of 32 persons in the United States was disabled one or more days by injuries received in home accidents during 1949, according to the National Safety Council. The home death toll was 41,000, of which about half resulted re-sulted from falls. Swans Taken For' Snow Geese; Fines Meted Out Hunters at Ogden Bay Waterfowl Water-fowl Refuge killed eleven Whistling Whist-ling Swans on Saturday, December 2,, and four more were picked up on Sunday. Five arrests were made, and fines ranged from $100 to $25. In a few cases innocent sportsmen sports-men shot swans thinking that they were Snow geese and came into the checking stations with them. Other hunters left them on the marshes where they had shot them. Ogden Bay continues to be one of the most popular duck hunting areas of the state. On the opening day of the season 2,000 hunters reported to the refuge, and each day hundreds of hunters have flocked there. On Sunday, Dec. 3, 1500 hunters checked into the marsh and then checked out with just a few under 1,000 ducks. No-land No-land Nelson, Refuge manager, reported re-ported that six geese were killed Saturday and twelve were bagged Sunday. The records show that last year there were 1400 hunter days on the Ogden Bay Refuge. This year that figure is expected to jump to 1800. , |
