Show 1 REMEMBER": EV THE OLD TIMERS From Freda Kraft, Baltimore: I remember the camphor bag and mole tooth I wore around my neck. The reason: Silly, of course, but to keep colds away. From Dora Bucklin, Orleans, Neb.: I remember when the early settlers set-tlers in western Nebraska held literary lit-erary debates in school hours and put up more convincing arguments than some of our politicians dc now. From E. E. Meredith, Fairmont. W. Va.: Do you remember whe; rouge and lipstick were worn only by show people? From Mrs. H. C. Fullerton, San Antonio, Texas: I remember when we got our first car. It was an Oh j open-top and had a fog horn you could hear for a country mile. We dressed for a ride in long linen dusters with linen cap and huge goggles. Sometimes we would find ourselves in a long lane behind a herd of cattle. , From Mrs. L. E. Irvin, Fullerton, Neb.: I remember when pails of fresh, foamy milk were strained through a cloth into crocks. From Mrs. Edith Cory, Chipley, Fla.: I remember when women wore basques with whalebones in each seam to hold them smooth and tight, and with them, long skirts and overskirts with bustles. From Mrs. Estelle C. Laughlin, Gering, Neb.: I remember when we didn't call a leg a leg or a bull a bull ... it was a limb and he was a gentleman cow. From Mrs. Josie Butera, Pittston, Pa.: I remember when the ice cream man with the push cart was called the "hokey-pokey." He used to ring a bell. He sold ice cream in forms of little rolls or squares wrapped in white paper for only two cents. (Mail your memories to The Old Timer, Box 340, Frankfort, Ky.) |
