Show V Public Invited to Formal Presentation Exercises, City Park Beginning 6 P. M. Through the generosity of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Provo Lodge No. 849, Springville is to come into possession of a fine flag Jand an American Flag, formal presentation being planned for today, to-day, Flag Day, at 6 p.m., at the site of the pole on the northeast section of the City Park. The flag- pole, contributed by the Elks, was placed on the park this week and will be all set for the presentation program and flag raising ceremony this evening. Russell Stringham, Provo, Ex-aulted Ex-aulted Ruler of the Elks lodge, will make the formal presentation and Mayor Edward Clyde of Springville, will accept the flag pole and flag in behalf of the city. The exercise planned for the afternoon af-ternoon by the lodge is designed to be informative as well as inspirational. in-spirational. It is part of the Elks objective to promote knowledge and of respect for the American Flag and all that it represents. Program The program will begin with music, "The Star Spangled Banner," Ban-ner," by the Springville high school band, directed by Harmon Hatch. Russell Stringham, Exaulted Ruler, will be in charge of the introductory in-troductory exercises. He will be assisted by other officers of the lodge. Roy Elliott, chaplain, will offer the prayer. There will be a pageant entitled, "The History of our Flag,' conducted con-ducted by Bill Whittaker, past Exaulted ruler from the BPOE ritual, assisted by the Boy Scouts. Following the pageant, the high school band will give a music sele-tion sele-tion and later Joseph E. Nelson, judge of the District Court, will give a patriotic address. Formal presentation of the patriotic pat-riotic gift, will follow the address and the American Legion Post No. 28, will retreat the colors. Another musical number will be given by the band, entitled, "Am-! erica" and the closing will be by the Exaulted ruler, with the clos-. ing prayer by the chaplain. |
