In keeping with the interesting talk on "Shanghai," given - by Miss Lola Bradford, Chinese and Japanese decorations were used. Sixteen ciub members and guests attended the latter meeting. Members of the Jovality club were delightfully entertained last Friday evening at the home of Mrs. Ann Stewart. The entertaining enter-taining rooms were beautiful with late fall flowers and Cfiristmas motifs. Early in the evening a delicious luncheon was served at small tables. Bridge was played later and high score prizes were won by Mrs. Lucille Packard, a member, and Mrs. Erma Ruff, a guest. Mrs. J. Turley of Flint, Michigan, Michi-gan, returned to her home early this week following a visit with her daughter, Mrs. Clare Turley Newberry and son here. Miss 1 Venice Whiting, president of the Novelty Circle acted as mistress of ceremonies and Miss Florence Bramall, president of the Boosters, Boost-ers, was toastmistress. Mr. and Mrs. Austin Houtz of Mapleton announce the marriage of their daughter Delia, to Lynn Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Johnson of Springville, which took place Nov. 3, at Heber City. The bride, a graduate of the local high school, is attending the Brigham Young university. Mr. Johnson is employed with Springville Spring-ville contractors. The couple plan to make their home in this city for the present. In honor of Mrs. Lynn Johnson, Mrs. Austin Houtz, her mother, assisted by an aunt, Mrs. Rebecca Twede of Payson, entertained at a miscellaneous shower last Saturday evening at the home of the former. A delightful de-lightful program of games, social chat and music was enjoyed. Lunch was served in conclusion to about 35 relatives and friends. The bride received many lovely and useful gifts. . Beardall of this city is appointed deputy county assessor, as-sessor, in charge of the Springville, Spring-ville, according to announcement announce-ment by Democratic committee commit-tee members. Mr. Beardall succeeds Theron S. Hall recently appointed Utah county commissioner. commis-sioner. Chief Loyd Bird of the Springville Spring-ville Fire department, gave the principal talk at a meeting of the Utah-Juab county Firemen's association, at Spanish Fork, Sunday. Sun-day. He stressed the value of modern fire equipment in reducing reduc-ing fire damage. The next meeting meet-ing of the association is scheduled sched-uled for February 7, at American Fork. Daughters of Utah Pioneers are desirous that all pioneers attend a joint social and program arranged ar-ranged in their honor to be held Thursday, December 9, at 2 p.m., in the Fourth Ward halll. Mrs. Ronald Thorpe was hostess host-ess to members of the Home Culture club at an entertaining and interesting meeting last Friday Fri-day afternoon. The program featured fea-tured a review of the book, "Katrina," by Mrs. D. B. Welch. It was especially enjoyable. Miss Phylis Smart also entertained with a violin selection accompanied accom-panied by her sister, Mrs. Kay 1 Johnson. Mrs. W. H. Anderson, vice-president was in charge of the meeting, which was attended by about 20 members and guests. A tasty luncheon was served by the hostess in conclusion. Of outstanding interest to members mem-bers of the Alpha Beta club was Friday afternoon's session which featured Mrs. Sterling Ercanbrack of Provo, as reader. In a very charming manner, she gave Max-wed Max-wed Anderson's play, " "High For," a drama which has received posi-t've posi-t've popularity throughout America. Amer-ica. Mrs. Virgil Bird entertained with piano numbers, "Va'se , Stearine," and the "Dream' of Love." Mrs. Charles Boyer, presi-, dent, was in charge of the meet- ing. Luncheon was served to 20 . members and four guests by the , hostess, Mrs. Milan R. Straw. The Mothers' Study club will ' be entertained Friday afternoon at 4 p. m at the home of Mrs. j A. G. Peterson. Professor Gernt . de Jong is scheduled to speak on "Germany." All members aie urged to be present. 5 Members of the Ladies' Literary Liter-ary club spent a delightful evening eve-ning at their meeting Friday evening at the home of Mrs. Harold Christensen. Following a tasty luncheon, served by the hostess, an enjoyable program was given. Mrs. Elizabeth Salisbury gave a brief history of Boake Carter and the group later listened lis-tened to his radio comments. Mrs. Lela Packard entertained with a piano solo, accompanied by Mrs. Juiia Sumsion. The English lesson was conducted by Mrs. Helen Crandall, l'ollowed by a discussion.
