STUDENT-BODY offices of the University of Utah left vacant, by the failure of students elected last year to return for the present pres-ent session were filled yesterday by appointments made by President Adolph Shafsjky. Miss Amy Silver was tunned vie: president, succeeding Miss Flora Kad-datz. Kad-datz. Miss Silver, who is a member of Alpha Chi sorority, has been prominent promi-nent in school affairs, having been connected with the Chronicle and Uton-ian, Uton-ian, university publications. Miss Edna Williams was chosen f.:eretary, succeeding succeed-ing Miss Silver. Miss Williams is a member of the Chi Omega sorority and has been active in school and chrss affairs. - Roy Simmons was elected treasurer. Simmons was president of last year's freshman class and is a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. Don Carlos Wood and Douglas Barnes were appointed yellmasters. A vigilance committee was also appointed, ap-pointed, including Marvin llennion, chairman; Joe Carl hey, Kenneth Barnes. Gerald Mines. Abe, Cannon, Roland Ro-land Kelly, and Orson Wright. This committee will enforce student-body rules and wMl provide freshmen regulations. regu-lations. The first student-body assemblj' of the year was held yesterday at noon and lasted about an hour and a half. Tie gathering was a football rally. President Shafsky of the Associated Students of the university, who opened the assembly, urged an improvement in college spirit. He promised Ihc students, stu-dents, a band this year at any cost. Musical numbers were furnished during dur-ing the meeting by a popular instrumental instru-mental quartet under tho direction of Ray West. Jt was announced that season sea-son tickets for all the football games will be on sate today and next week. A down-town football rally will be held on the night of October 10. Colonel Marshall R-andol has promised whatever military equipment mav be desired for the rally. The speakers included Dean William H. Leafy of tho school of law. Hamilton Gardner, former university football player and president of the student body during the year 1912-1.": Coach T. M. "Fitzpatrick, and Captain Walter Moore. Miss Lucy Van Cott held a.
