Show jSsii Taken Over by W- H. Swan-son Swan-son and Is Being Made a Photoplay Palace. With the opening of the new Gem theater the-ater (formerly the Liberty) Sunday, October Octo-ber 20, tho Swanson theater circuit, XV. H. Swanson, president, will give Salt Lake City another first-class moving picture house. The theater, which is now undergoing under-going extensive alterations, will, when finished, be the last word la motion picture pic-ture construction. Mr. Swanson prom1 ises that It will be a veritable photoplay palace. "The new house will he a dream of beauty and homelike refinement," eaid Mr. Swanson in discussing the latest addition ad-dition to his chain of theaters. The houso is being remodeled, restated, relighted, redecorated and reseated. New projectors are being installed and the theater will be equipped with a new screen and new draperies throughout. An indirect lighting system Is being installed in-stalled and the silk draperies will be of the most expensive nature. The beautiful beauti-ful new seats, harmonizing with the general gen-eral decorative scheme, will make the theater lhe most beautiful isho house In the west. In fact, it will bo second to none In tho country. In connection with the new balcony, a ladies' rest room is being installed. This will be equipped with a free telephone, maid, writing desk and other facilities for the convenience of women patrons. Mr. Swanson announces that the Gem will play only the superproductions of tiie world's master producers. "No attention will be paid to wh(? the stars are.'-' says Mr. Swanson. "but they wiil bo big pictures, pic-tures, the best that money can buy. Much more will be presented than can be imagined. imag-ined. No photoplay will be run for less than a week, and some of them longer. The admission price will- be governed by the cost of the production or tho demands de-mands of the producer." The music will be furnished by Miss Anderson's string orchestra. The new theater will be formally opened Sunday, October 26, with D. V. Griffilh's latest master production, "Broken Blossoms." |
