Show Plank Reiterates His Intension to Retire EDDIE PLANK. S fX Vy J f is si"'.''";? A , "'3g M . u' I NEW TORK, Jlarch 11. Eddie Plank is through. The daddy of American league southpaws has reiterated his decision de-cision to stay in retirement for all time, and baseball has lost a picturesque figure. fig-ure. v When Plank was traded to the Yankees in the deal that brought Pratt to New Tork for Shocker, Maisel, Gedeon and Cullop, he refused to report to Miller Huggins, saying he had suffered a breakdown. break-down. Recently he returned his unsigned 1919 contract to the New York club with a letter that left no doubt regarding his intentions to stick to the business of selling sell-ing automobile tires. The "Gettysburg" veteran has passed from the pastime, but he has left a record rec-ord behind that few pitchers, especially left-handers, may ever hope to equal. In all he spent seventeen long and strenuous years as a moundsman, breaking in with the Athletics in 1901 and serving with them for fourteen- straight seasons without with-out a break. Two years with the Browns and a year spent with the St. Louis Federals Fed-erals complete his record. Over that period he pitched a fraction over thirty-six championship games per season, participating in a total of 623 games, according to the best available records, rec-ords, and winning 323 games. In all his long career as a hurler he lost but 191 games. When he realized he was through he determined to drop baseball rather than spoil the record that took seventeen years to build up. Plank Is out of it now, but his record, which follows, will stand as a high mark for left-handers to shoot at. EDDIE PLANK'S RECORD. Year. Club and League. Gms. W.
