Show BLACKMAILER GETS FIVE-YEAR TERM SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 25. A sentence of five years in the federal penitentiary at McNeil's island, Wash., for defrauding defraud-ing through the mails in pursuance of a scheme to extort money from prominent San Francisco residents of German extraction, ex-traction, on representations that they had engaged in seditious activities, was imposed im-posed today on Ernest T. Haass, head of the "Society for the Prevention of German Ger-man Propaganda." Maass confessed writing letters demanding de-manding that each person addressed send ; him $150 or he would "expose" seditious ajPlties of which he accused them.
