Show STEPHEN B. NEWMAN HONORED BY LABOR Former' City Commissioner Is Elected Vice President of International Association of Stage Employees. A telegram from St. Paul, Minn., where the annual convention of the American Federation of Labor is being held, last night 'conveyed the information informa-tion that Stephen B. Newman, former city -commissioner, had been elected vice president of the International Association As-sociation of Theatrical Stage Employees. Mr. Newman went to the convention as a delegate of the Utah Federation of Labor. For many years Mr. Newman has been the president of the local organization organi-zation of stage employees and his long been prominent in labor circles' of the state. He is the stage manager of the Orpheum theater, where he has been continuously employed almost from the inception of Orpheum vaudeville in this city. . . Upon the expiration of W. H. Shearman Shear-man as commissioner of waterworks, Mr. Newman was elected to fill his unexpired un-expired term. He was a candidate for re-election last fall and was one of the four men to qualify for the election of two, Mr. Newman ran third. Information from St. Paul last evening even-ing did not state whether the new position posi-tion would take Mr. Newman from the city, but it. is believed that the work will necessitate much of his time away from Salt Lake. |
