Act ing upon the suggestion of the state council of defense, the Bannock county council for the enforcement of vagrancy laws and for special investigation of alleged al-leged labor slackers, with headquarters .j inthis city, will probably be organized i in the near future. ' The necessity for such action lias been !i emphasized by the recent conduct of .! Mexican, Basque and French sheepherd- I ; ers in demanding unreasonable wages and in attempting to cause 9trikes I among those employed in the sheep i camps in this section of the state, ji The enlistment of many American h sheepherdors has made it necessary tor 1 , sheepmen to relv largely on foreigners, and they are taking advantage of the situation in demanding as high as $l-o i; a month and board. The various county 'l councils are keeping in close touch with '' the labor situation and will furnish the t state council with the names of idlers nud those who refuse to work unless paid unreasonable wages. I Plans are being formulated by the .'! stiita council to deal with- such men, who are either aliens, or above the j draft age, bv compelling them either to , enlist, accept employment at fair wages, J! or bo deported. |
