Show BOXING GLOVES ARE USED IN TRAINING Becoming Important Equipment in Hardening Men Physically at Fort Douglas Rocruit Attachment. Boxing gloves are becoming an important im-portant adjunct to tho equipment for trainiug recruits to become seasoned soldiers. These sweltering days anyone who rides to Fort Douglas in the afternoons on the car may see the boys of the big recruit detachment out on the Forty-third Forty-third regiment drill grounds handling the gloves vigorously. It makes no difference to the boys that they are out in the broiling sun and that there is no "squared ring," seconds or buckets of water and fanning fan-ning towels. They shed their blouses, put" on the gloves, and go after each other in a manner that puts their muscles mus-cles and bodies in fine condition to stand the work of the trenches "over there." Training with the gloves has become as much a part of the training of the soldier as his. work with the gun, almost. He has to develop himself him-self through this physical training before be-fore he is'fit to take up the work with the rifle. |
