Show KESLEH 10 GREEN WILL OPPOSE FERRY Crebbe Refuses to Give the Mayor Any Encouragement Encourage-ment as to Vote. A sentlejnen's test of strength that went two hours to an adjournment rather than a decision was conducted yesterday afternoon by three hold-over commissioners and the two commissioners-elect. Another meeting is to be held at 1 o'clock this afternoon. Definite fixing of the order of reorganization is expected at that time. In the meantime the replacement of Mayor Ferry as head of the department of public safety was reported after the meeting to have been proved certain. The mayor was frankly told by Commissioner Commis-sioner Herman H. Green yesterday morning morn-ing that he would vote against his remaining re-maining in the public safety department. Commissioner-elect Albert H. Crabbe refused to give Die mayor any encouragement encour-agement that he would vote otherwise than against him. Frank statement of his position was made at yesterday afternoon's af-ternoon's meeting by Commissioner-elect C. Clarence Xeslen. He prefaced his declara i ion with an expression of full personal confidence in Mayor Ferry, but said he did not feel free to act in accordance ac-cordance with any personal Inclination he might have because of the persistent public sentiment for a change in the affairs af-fairs of the public safety department. As to wishes with regard to which department depart-ment he should take. Mr. Neslen waived them, explaining that he would take whatever the majority will of the commission com-mission demanded of him. But he made it plain that he felt bound to rote against Mayor Ferry's continuance in the a-partment a-partment of public safety as a matter of public policy. Mr. Neslen's - announcement that he would not demand any department leaves the street department open to Mr. Crabbe. Mr. Crabbe expressed himself him-self yesterday a-s desirous of being assigned as-signed to it. Commissioner Green announced an-nounced a desire to be left in the park department, as did also Commissioner Karl A. Schetd with regard to the finance department and Mayor Ferry the department depart-ment of public safety. The prediction is that Mayor Ferry and Commissioner Scheid will have changed positions when the reorganization reorganiza-tion has been completed. Commissioner Scheid could probably evade the public safety berth, if determined to do so, should be be given a chance to vote for Commissioner Green or Mr. Neslen for the position before being himself voted into it. |
