Hoan. elected to office, on the Socialist ticket, issued a statement today to-day saving he could not comply with the platform of the Socialist party adopted at St. Louis and at the same time obey the constitution and laws of the United States. He said the Milwaukee Mil-waukee countv central committee, I he hiehest local Socialist oveniing body, held the same view and had voted unanimously unan-imously that it was Hoan 's duty to execute and carry out the laws ot t.lie United States. W hether Mavor Hoan will resign from the Socialist partv will rest, if is understood, un-derstood, with the stand the leaders take on his statement. "I reported my conclusions to the Milwaukee county central committee, which apreed with me. I stated to them that there were but two possible courses to pursue, viz.. either to resiu'n as mnvor or to comply with the laws and the government 's request in connection con-nection with carrying on the war. 1 offered to comply with whichever nf these two courses it miht choose.
