The accident occurred about ten miles out of Salt LaJiC, near what, is known as Dale's station, the train being the regular reg-ular freight that leaves Park City at It) p. in. daily. It was made up of fifteen fif-teen cars, drawn by two engines ami pushed by a third as far as the summit of the mountain, where the extra engine en-gine was uncoupled and returned to Park City. The. train, with the double-header double-header operating on the front end, started down the canyon, and was steadily stead-ily gaining momentum as it approached Dale's station, until some of the crew expressed alarm at the rate of speed, when investigation developed the fact that the train was "running away." The crew was quickly sent to man the hand brakes, and every man was straining nt the brakes when the train left the rails. As soon as news of 1hc disaster reached Suit. Lake three company doctors doc-tors and the wrecking train wero hurried hur-ried to the scene, and the injured men were n.t once sent to St. Mark's hospital in this city. The wrecker at; ouec began be-gan the task of clearing the track. Superintendent Su-perintendent K. V. Deuel accompanied tho -wrecking crew to the canyon, and had not returned to the city at a late hour. At St. Mnrk's hospital it was said last night that the injure t men j were doing well. |
