Show IH PUPILS OBSERVE RED MCK DAY East Side Collects $3425 to Be Turned Into Coffers of Red Cross. Ecd and Black day was observed at the East high school in the auditorium yesterday afternoon with a splendid programme. 'Each year, prior to the Christmas vacation, lied and Black day is held to chronicle tho important activities ac-tivities of tho school. 1 Keports that Do per cent of the pupils of the school had subscribed to the Ked Cross memberships, and that $3-125 was turned over to the Ked Gross headquarters headquar-ters by the pupils m ho took part, in the campaign, indicated that the East high had established a record among tbe schools of the city for its support of activities of mercy. A one-at plav, entitled ' ' Miss Civilization' Civi-lization' was the feature, 'this is the first of a series of plays that will be given by the Dramatic, ciub. Mi3s Neva Clegg, who played the part of "Jliss Gardner," was the leading lady. The three burglars, who were represented by Fra-neis Trottier. Sam Koseubaum and Floyd Doxey, also played their parts well. Miss Dorothy Young, '17, was the ! speaker representing the alumnae. Bryan Johnson, 15, representing tho alumni, also talked. .Marrin Chamberlain, president of the debating club, explained the progress of the organization at the school, and expressed ex-pressed hopes for tbe state championship champion-ship this year. Miss Marguerite Peterson Peter-son talked on dramatics, while Brighton Cain explained tho workings of the fied and Black, the school newspaper. Principal Prin-cipal George A. Eaton also talked. James Jennings, president of the S. A. E., presided. Music was furnished by the orchestra of the East and West high schools. A glee club under Miss Lisle Bradford, composed of Arthur Leonard. Kenneth Bourne, Wallace Castleton, Alex Wallace. Wal-lace. Ben.iy Hite and Stokes Nebekcr, gave popular selections. Miss Loreine Smith favored tho audience with a vocal. selection. William Hardiman pave a violin sole. AH of iUo nui. 8ical numbers were accompanied by Miss Lisle Bradford. The auditorium was filled with many -former students as well as the entire "present school. A matinee dance iu tho library hall concluded con-cluded the day. The Christmas issue of the Bed and Black newspaper, the publication of the East and West high schools, came out yesterday. This copy comprises sixteen Eages, and an elaborate cover designed y Harold Browning. "Reviews of different activities of ihe school were contained in the issue, together to-gether with nianv cartoons, stories and cuts. Special attention was given to the football season just past, which was wou by the East high school. Those who failed to obtain copies may get them today. The issue contains interesting stories by Lucefta Wallace, Milton Komnov. Wallace Kuiikc.l, Hortensc Piatt, Phvl-lis Phvl-lis Daynes and others. A change in the arrangement of the editorial 6taff of the Red and Black paper was announced, following tho resignations res-ignations of the editor-in-chief and his assistant, which were asked foT by the student, court, the reasons not having been made public. Those who resigned were Roy Jartnon and Blaine Sellick. R. J. Mitchell, who was formerly business busi-ness manager for the paper, becomes editor-in-chief; Byrou Johnson, formerly former-ly sporting editor, becomes assistant editor: find Earl Beveridge, formerly photographer, becomes business manager. man-ager. Other members of the staff will remain as before. These pupils will hold their offices only temporarily. In accordance with the provisions of the student bodv constitution, con-stitution, an election will be held in the near future, when the positions will be permanently filled. |
