Kesler, city planning expert of St. Louis, addressed a meeting of the Salt Lake Realtors' board at the Commercial Com-mercial club at. luncheon yesterday, advocating advo-cating many innovations which met with the approval of the board. To relieve congestion of the streets by the parking of automobiles along the curb, he suggested sug-gested that spaces be designated along the street car tracks in the business section sec-tion of the city,' to which the parking of cars during the day should be confined, con-fined, leaving the curb free for machines to drop passengers. Mr. Kesler also criticized the lack of parks and recreation grounds in the immediate vicinity of school buildings and recommended that some provision be made for the establishment of public parks as such places, lie also discussed the advantages of segregating the city I into zones in the business section, e-q that the various lines of business may be conducted con-ducted within classified areas. Mr. Kesler placed great stress on the necessity of planning for the future growth, and expansion of the city by protecting pro-tecting the parts that are now rather suburban against deterioration by the establishment of industries not conducive to perfect sanitation. He suggested that the land alona: the Jordan river bo parked and boulevarded so that it may be made attractive for residential purposes, and in doing this he said a fire break woidd be established to prevent the spread of fire in case of great conflagration on either side. It was the general sentiment that, notwithstanding the war conditions, no better time than the present could be chosen for beginning the work of improvement. im-provement. The committee appointed to appraise city property reported that it had begun its work and had received several requests re-quests for the appraisement of business property in order that established valuations valua-tions might be filed with the banks. |
