Show YULETIDE MESSAGE OF NEW YORK MAYOR NEW YORK, Dec. 21. "Make this Christmas as joyful as any in the past and discourage artificial production of despondency" was the substance of a Yuleticle message given to the people of New York City tonight by Mayor-elect J. F. Hylan. There is enough gloom in the world, he asserted. . "Do not reduce your preparations for celebrating this Christmas with confidence confi-dence and generosity, with belief in the strength of your country and with a heart filled with the spirit of giving." he said. "Little do they understand the thought and emotions of the people who think we can be made stronger by depriving us of one of the elements of strength the capacity to enjoy," the message added. "They are short-sighted who advise this course. "I believe New York, to play its full part in this war, for the country or for the cause of the country, must be an intensely vital New York. It must be a big, brave, rich, generous New York, the splendid metropolis of a splendid nation. It must shake the clouds off." |
