Show MERGER FORMED BY II OMiZlTffi Deseret Association and Insurance In-surance Federation Join Their Forces. The consolidation of the two largest organizations of insurance men in the state was effected yesterday noon at the Newhouse hotel, when members of the Deseret Association of Life Underwriters Under-writers voted unanimously to merge with the Insurance Federation of Utah. The amalgamation was largely due to the efforts of John D. Spencer, president presi-dent of both associations. Being in close touch with the work of both organizations, or-ganizations, Mr. Spencer realized that much more good for all insurance interests inter-ests could be accomplished if the life, casualty, fire and surety men could be assembled in one body. , The Deseret association s membership member-ship was 'made up of life insurance and casualtv representatives, while the Federation embraced practically all . other lines of insurance. ! The question of amalgamation was brought up some time ago by President; Spencer. At first the members of the Deseret association were not altogether inclined to lose the identity of the organization, or-ganization, but upon the presentation of the various advantages to be gained by all concerned the motion to merge was adopted without opposition. Under the new scheme the federation will have a membership of between 200 and 300 men and women. The Deseret association s membership was around 100 and that of the Insurance Federation between 100 and 150. It is probable that the federation will be reorganized in departments for each class of insurance insur-ance represented and that each department depart-ment will select a delegate to represent it upon the board of governors of the federation. President Spencer spoke in favor of the amalgamation at yesterday's luncheon lunch-eon of the association, as did William F. McKell of the American Surety company, com-pany, representing the federation. Others who spoke in favor of the consolidation con-solidation were F. E. Francisco, George W. Peck, E. K. Hardv, Frank Slater, K. It. Nelson, J. V. Smith, M. H. Hor-ton. Hor-ton. Tbe Deseret association was organized about three years ago and since that time has taken a prominent part in various campaigns to give publicity to Salt Lake and Utah. It also has participated par-ticipated extensively in other philanthropic philan-thropic and public spirited movements and gained recognition as one of the leading insurance organizations of the western country. Under the new arrangement it is intended in-tended that while the organization will in effect lose its identity the members shall keep up the work begun by the organization, only on a more extended plan. Yesterday 's meeting probably was the last gathering of the Deseret association associa-tion under the old identity. In view of this fact President Spencer arranged for a programme a little out of the ordinary. or-dinary. In addition to the talks made, musical selections were rendered bv Mrs. Lucille C. "Wells, Miss Shanna Tout and Miss Grace Tout. |
