A special meeting of the city board of education aa ft committee of the ! whole is to be held tonight to consider the salary schedule of teachers. It has been' predicted that tho board will probably rescind its act of liberality liberal-ity of a few weeks ngo in raising the minimum of beginning teachers from j $480 to $000. j Consternation was occasioned among J the board members last Tuesday nighij by tho srhedulo of salaries submit PC by Superintendent I. H. ChristenaeiX It was based upon tho newly specified minimum. t j Revenues Limited. . Tho most liberal estimate of tho ' schedule submitted by tho superintend ent, WOULU Uling LIIU il.lrtl.V DA.riiDC jui i the teaching Jorce of t.lie city under $700,000 for the year. By conservative estimate, it has been figured that the revenue for school purposes accruing to ' Salt. Lake City from all sources for tho current year will probably amount to 1 $905,000, exclusive of the funds ro-quired ro-quired to provide for interest on bonds 1 and for the sinking fund. ' j This would leave $265,000 in exefss of i the salary expense outlined in the schedule. Of this amount, $50,000 will be required to cover this year's deficit. Hovvevor, the cost of building, improvements improve-ments for the coming year have .been provided by the special bond issue of j $200,000. Big Sum Remaining. The result is that should tho schedule suggested be adopted, there would be approximately $200,000 available for operation and maintenance expenses, after tho salary expense had been de-1 ducted from the total revenue.
