Show East Denuded of Infantry. NEW YORK. May 10. The order of the war department sending additional troops to the Mexican border, including the Third and Thirtieth Infantry regiments, virtually virtu-ally strips the department of the east of all of ite infantry. There remain only three squadrons of the Feeond cavalry at Ports Ethan Allen and Meyer and a battalion bat-talion of field artillery. The departure of the Third and Thirtieth Thir-tieth regiments leaven hardly enough regular reg-ular officers in the department of the east to a-ct- as instructors for the military training camps at Plattsburgh this summer.; sum-mer.; -It Is believed at army headquarters headquar-ters here that officers from the coast artillery commands stationed in eaHtern forts will be ordered to take the places of the Infantry officers as instructors at Pittsburgh. This plan was adopted in the case of the training camps at Fort Oglethorpe. |
