Prizes at cards were won by Airs. M. S. Browning. Mrs. J. H. tipirso and Mrs. YY". G. Dalryrnple. One of the largest affairs of the week was tite reception given Friday afternoon bv Mrs. K. G. Gowans and Miss (iowans at their home tit the state industrial school, to which 150 guests were bidden. Tile rooms were 'beautifully decorated in green and red. and during the afternoon music was furnished by Professor Nichols's Nich-ols's orchestra. Mrs. K. IlouU of Halt Iake assisted in receiving, and -presiding at the tea table were Mrs. E. A. Bowen, Mrs. Parley T. Wright. Mrs. George Glen and Mrs. Hyrum Pingree. A marriage of interest to a largo number num-ber of Ogden people was that of Miss Beatrice Boreman and Lieutenant Halver C. Coulter, which took place Thursday, November :6, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Ramsey, 173o Columbia road, In Washington. D. C. Tito ceremony cere-mony was performed by the Rev. Dr. Tavlor of the Central Presbyterian church. The bride, who for the past year has been a resident of Washington, Is the daughter of the late Jacob S. Boreman, for many years judge of the supreme court of the state, of Utah. J,ieutenant Coulter Is in the coast artillery corps. U. S. A., and is at present detailed as Instructor In-structor of mathematics at West Point. Mr. Coulter is the son of Dr. and Mrs. C. E. Coulter of this city, where he has numerous frlends. Ttiesdav afternoon, at the home of Mrs. Charles Fmpev on Madison avenue, a meeting of the Child Culture club was held. At the close of the business session ses-sion a musical and literary programme was given, which included two vocal solos by Mrs. C. H. Stevens, a -piano solo ' by Miss Alberta Wright, and papers by Mrs. Archie Bowman and Mrs. D. J. Sheehan. The club will meet January 5 with Mrs. John Farr, on Canyon road. An enjovable affair of the week was the celebration of Alumni day, Friday, at the Weber academy. A basketball game, followed by a dance, were features of the entertainment. Mrs. Fred M. Tsve was hostess to the members of the Maids' and Matrons' club Monday afternoon at the clubrooms. Sunday evening, a.t the North Ogden chapel, the Utah Conservatory of Music presented the pupils of Miss Mona Smith in a piano recital, assisted by Miss Dora Smith, violinist. D. E. Sullivan left Monday for Boston, where he will take a special course In oratory at the Leland Powell School of Oratory. Mr. Sullivan Is a recent graduate gradu-ate of Notre Dame university, Indiana. Miss Hala Burton entertained the mem-hers mem-hers of her club Wednesday evening at her home on Quincv avenue. An election was held, the following officers being elected: Mrs. Fern Elliott Shragtie, president; pres-ident; Miss Rhoda Dye. treasurer; Miss Ellen Dee, secretary. The club will meet December 14 with Miss Ellen Dee at her home, 2903 Adams avenue. An elaborate dancing party will be given on January 1 by the members of the Maids and Matrons' club. Mrs. J. Ballantyne entertained at a. Red Cross tea at her home on Orchard avenue Monday afternoon. I The Ognat club was entertained Monday Mon-day evening by the Misses Murray and Kiesel at the home of the former on Quincy avenue. Progressive "600" was the diversion of the evening, prizes being be-ing awarded to Mrs. Alfred Rutherglen and Mr. J. Egan. Guests of the club were Misses Maher of Salt Lake and Foley of Wyoming. Messrs. Egan, Rutherglen, Ruth-erglen, Bauchman, Baumunk, Clark Moore, McCarty, Stretch, Blase, Straup, Kelliber, Barger. Whitmeyer and Dr. Bartlett. The Misses Wall and Davenport Daven-port will be hostesses to the club at its next meeting. The Home Industry association met Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. H. A. West. Frank B. Smith, son of C. E. Smith, has gone to Valparaiso, Ind., where be will take a four-year course in structural architecture at the Valparaiso university. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Leggett are visiting friends In Portland, Ore., for several weeks. Mrs. St. R. Savage of Salt Lake is visiting relatives here for two weeks. Miss Katherine Maher of Salt Lake has been the guest of Miss Murray for the past week. The Children of Mary met Sunday, in S't. Joseph's hall. Harmon W. Peery has gone to Red-lands, Red-lands, Cal., for a brief stay. He was accompanied ac-companied by his mother and his sister, Mrs. Emmett G. Fulkerson, who will remain re-main at Redlands for the winter. The Utopia club members were the guests of Mrs. J. W. Ure Wednesday afternoon at her home on Twenty-sixth street. Mrs. H. F. McCune and Mrs. A. L. Scovllie were guests of the club. Mrs. .v D. Leo Madsen will entertain the club at its next meeting. December 29. Mrs. J. Benowitz entertained the Octa-ian Octa-ian Bridge club Wednesday evening at fler home. The Historical society met Saturday afternoon with Mrs. E. F. Mtsch. Wednesday, in the Salt Lake temple, Apostle D. O. McKay performed the ceremony cere-mony uniting in marriage Miss Rosella Ferrin, daughter of Moroni D. Ferrin of Salt Lake, and Elijah A. Larkin of this city. The brhlei who Is a graduate of the Weber academy, has a large cirjale of friends and acquaintances in this city. Mrs. Valentine Gideon will entertain the Nob Hill Kensington club at the next meeting. Father Rapier, president of the All Hallows college of Salt Lake, will he the speaker. The programme pro-gramme on this occasion will include a cantata, "Christmas," and selections by the high school orchestra, under the leadership lead-ership of Mrs. Edgar Wells. At the regular meeting of the Knights of Pythias on Tuesday evening, the time was taken up with degree work, and the election of officers for tho coming year was postponed until next meeting. John T. Hayes left this week for southern south-ern California, where he will remain during dur-ing the balance of the winter. Ernest. Mrs. Maude Seegmiller entertained a number of her friends at a wedding shower for Miss Do lie Seegmiller and Ray Smith, who are to he married next week. The St. George primary association gave a benefit dance Friday night .in the academy auditorium, the proceeds of which will go to the St. George missionaries mis-sionaries now in the field. Monday morning, at a student body programme, Professor G. H. Brlmhall of the FSristham Young nnlversit v gave a talk to the students, and President E. VI. Snow also gave a short talk. The school orchestra, under Professor E. M. Rygg, gave a number of fine selections. A nice programme was given Sunday evening in the tabernacle by the religion classes of St. George.
