Show DENMARK S HARD LUCK In normal times the grain secured in this country by Denmark comes through Hamburg or other German ports Now that the war is on and the German ports closed to traffio with the outs de world large quantities of gra n are being sh pped d feet to the Danish ports and th s has given rise to the Busp cion that there is some th ng rotten in the state of Denmark In other words the allies fear that much of this grain is intended for Ger many In view of this suspicion Constantin Brun tho minister from Denmark to the United States has vis ted the state department in Wash ngton to discuss the difficult es regard ng the sh pment of grain and other foodstuffs to h s nat ve land The Netherlands Den mark Norway and Sweden have each been accused in turn of supplying the Germans with foodstuffs and such con traband of war as they have been able to dispose of for good prices Whether gu lty or nnocent they are called upon to suffer just the same The explana t on of Denmark seems reasonable and there should be no interference with im portations of foodstuffs |
