In The Tribune of Sunday December 6, a splendidly illustrated "double-page article, telling of the recent transformation transforma-tion of Sugarhouse? by reason of the many new public improvements, cited the "names of those who were largely instrumental in this remarkable development, devel-opment, but did not mention the name ot Kimball & Eichards, ''Land Merchants. Mer-chants. ' ' Those who know anything of the development of this splendid new sub-center sub-center also know that it would be impossible im-possible to name any public improvement improve-ment or other civic development of this section without namiDg Kimbnll & Richards, either as promoters of the improvement or substantial backers of it. Among other purely civic improvements improve-ments in this district alone in which this firm has taken a most active part are the following: The firm started the movement for the annexation of Sugarhouse to the city and worked to secure this object for more than a year. They alone boio the entire cost of surveying the district dis-trict for annexation. At a cost of $11,000 the firm alone' extended the first city water mains ' into Sugarhouse and beyond into High-, land park. 1 In order to hasten the development of the district, the firm paid in excess of $1000 to have the old county highway, high-way, now Highland drive, brought to the city engineer's grade. This work was done on one of the oldest public roads in the state. At its own expense the firm brought the electric street lights into the Sugar-house Sugar-house district. The firm was among; the first to su gest the building of the new eightecn-mch eightecn-mch city water supply main down Thirteenth Thir-teenth South street. " Kimball & Richards first started the movement for asphalt street pavement . from Twelfth Soiith on Eleventh East , and Highland drive to Thirteenth South, and out of a total donation ex- 1 feeding $5400, made to defray the : city 's cost of intersections, personally I advanced $2250.
