I Party From Salt Lake Sees Wonderful New Station. $ TilK ponderous marhinftrr of th big underground hoisting and compressor station of tho Silver Kinc Coalition Mines fornj'Hny at F'Hrk "'itv is all in position, tunod up and running as smoothly aa clorfcwork. Description of Station. The following description, of the station sta-tion and its equipment is from the April number of Minn and Quarry, and is practically a condensation of a more detailed article on tho subject, writ ten bv L. O. Howard and published in the Halt Fyfikc Mining Review of November 30, KM.'i: For thn proper development of 1 this section of tho Silver King j property It, oocamn advisable to i sink a shaft from 1200 to 1 :)()0 fnt in depth at, a point, about two mile in from the month of tho Alliance tunnel. This point is muler lo7' feet, n P cover, and corresponds in elevation with the ."00-foot level of the main King shaft, through which tho principal operations of the c.ompanv have been carried on thus far. The proposer aha ft, will be cut. through to the fpiart.lte ! c oTitaei, underlying the ore bor v that, is now bdng worked, through the King shaft, at. a depth of HOl) 1 to 1200 feet. Tn order to provide hoisting nnd rompreti",ei nir service for the now shaft, the company decid'-d to con it met si n u rid err r rui ml station in the qoTid rock. It is curried through the mum hv mentis of an imu'enrn cable, which, wit h its insulating coerinir. is about two inches in diameter. It is expected ex-pected the contact, will be reached in somcthini: like from to IJ '11 feet. This work is not in barren ground bv anv means. It is expected ex-pected that ore will lie encountered on everv level, or nearly so. The tunnel is bet n mnk bet ween t wo ore bejtrinc rones, the contact on the nort h and the 1isure ou the south. Much of this e roseut tinii will be done as the shaft is being sent down. Much Cement Required. In the coucietMic; of the treat station twenty radwav cars of I t ah I'ort land ce-nent was usid, a ml this was rei 11 forced wit h .H'i tuna uf steel and iron, a lare portion por-tion of it such mat erial o: that kind as accumulates around a bi mine in the course of vears of operation. The arched roofs of the underground struct u ro were rein-forceil rein-forceil with railroad iron, a lare amount of which was used for that purpose. No little details hao been omitted in making the station as complete as possible. A short distance away is n tool sharpening station that will do nwav with the necessity of hauling tools two miles iuit to the mouth of the tunnel to be sharpened. The elevation above spa level at the month of the Alliance tunnel is 770P. feet and at the station a little lit-tle more, so met h iuu b lie t wenty -tid feet. The elevation above sea level at the month of the Silver K l n if sha ft . where t he boa rding house is located, i approximately vjtM feet. Yesterday snow was still 1 v i n n in heavy banks a ni o n g the onn if pinc on tho hillsides in the vicinity. That was t he only evidence evi-dence of win I er, however, as n carpet of softest i:reen covered all that port ion ot the count rv fret' from snow and the sun shone warm and bright. The location is n delightful de-lightful one at this season of the y ear. Ventilation Excellent. The ventilation of the station and tunnel is excellent, there not being the faintest suggestion ef foul atr. There are several open-inn open-inn reaching through to the sur-fnee, sur-fnee, and t hese c rr v st rong enr rents of air. ntVording the best possible ventilation.
