Show PARENT-TEAGHER mmm meet Great Activity Is Shown in Various Districts by Societies. The Parent-Teachor association of tho Longfellow district met Monday afternoon in the Longfellow school. Miss Becky Almond plaved Liszt's Hungarian rhar.sodie No. G" and Char-meuse, Char-meuse, by Clark. Horace Ensign, accompanied on the piano by Sammy Williams, sang three solos, "Remember and Forget." - 'Don't You Mind It, Ho::ey" and "Kiver Shannon. ' ' Mrs. William M. Stewart, in her talk on "Tho Evolution of Motherhood," said that tho message of the twentieth century is the "tfisterhood of Woman." Mho pointed out that the education of the past had led away from motherhood, mother-hood, but the education of the future must be toward motherhood. She said that the perpetuation of humanity in its highest form should be taught our children today. Principal L. M. Gillilan of the West Side High school will address the Parents-Teachers' association of the Washington Wash-ington school at- the school building Thursday evening at 8 o'clock. Ills subject will be, "Why Children Go to School." After his talk Mr. Gillilan will lead a general discussion on co-operation between home and school. Other features will be a report on the home and school league, and special music, including selections by. the school orchestra. or-chestra. Announcement will bo mado of the penny lunches which are to be started as soon as tho equipment can be installed. The Jefferson teachers and parents held a meeting Thursday afternoon in room 17 of the Jefferson school. The following programme was given: Heading, by Miss Opal Rice; vocal eolo, by Miss Blanche Barrow; address. "What Should Be Taught in Domestic Science and Sewing in the Grammar Grades," by Mrs. Tanner. The parents and teachers were given an opportunity to express themselves on paper as to the needs in domestic science sci-ence and sewing. An address on "Proper "Prop-er Foods for Children," was given bv Miss Ellen Agnew of the L. D. S. High school. The parents and teachers of Franklin school district met in the school. A musical programme -was rendered by the various grades of the school, after which Miss Qualtrough, supervisor of the cltv grammar schools, addressed the audience upon the necessity of mutual mu-tual and better underetanding'between parent and teacher, and advised all to start the training of their children six years before they entered school. Miss Lees'pf the city board of health spoke of the necessity of reporting correctly all births and cases of contagious diseases. |
