Show Outline of the War News Three important announcements furnish fur-nish the outstanding features in the latest reports concerning the European Euro-pean war. The British and French Mediterranean fleets are carrying on a vigorous bombardment of the Dardanelles Dar-danelles forts, tho lirst serious attack at-tack made at this point by the allies' warships. The German forces have been defeated at the fortress of Ossa-weiz, Ossa-weiz, northeast of Lomza, Russian Poland, according- to advices from a member of the Kuesian general staff. A German submaVine has made its way into the Irish sea and torpedoed a British coasting steamer on the north route taken by trans-At! antic steamers to and from Liverpool. The attack on the Dardanelles was begun Friday, and continued through Saturday. British official reports and unofficial statements declare that the allied fleets have met with success in what naval experts say must have been one of the most serious bombardments bom-bardments ever undertaken. Eight battleships and cruisers are taking part in the attack, and the forts on both sides of the straits are reported to have been silenced without with-out damage to the warships. The Turks, however, say that no damage was done to the forts, aqd that their casualties numbered one killed and one wounded, with considerable con-siderable damage to three of the warships war-ships by the guns of the fort. At Osswetz, it is reported, the German invaders suffered heavy losses after a stubborn artillery battle, and are retreating to the East Prussian frontier. The British steamer which met disaster dis-aster in the Irish sea was the Cam-bank, Cam-bank, and was torpedoed east of Linas point by a German submarine without warning. Three members of the crew were killed and a fourth was drowned, tho remainder being saved. In the western theater of war there 1 has becn cannonading in Belgium aud along the whole front as far as and including- Rheiins. In the Champagne Cham-pagne district the allies have re pulsed several counter attacks and made fresh progress north of Perthes. At Lcs Esparges, southeast of Verdun, Ver-dun, tho allies on Saturday delivered ' a fresh attack, after having repulsed the sixth counter attack by tho Germans. Ger-mans. This-attack, according to the French war office, resulted in enlarging en-larging and completing the progress realized Friday. An Austrian official statement says that a severe artillery and rifle fire was carried on in Russian Poland Friday. Vigorous fighting developed : around the Russian advanced positions posi-tions captured by the Austrians in the region south of Tarnow and on tho Duuajce river. The Russian counter attacks were repulsed. !
