By unanimous unan-imous vote tbe senate elections committee com-mittee today recommended investigation of senatorial campaigns in Pennsylvania Pennsylva-nia and Illinois and in anj other states where charges of corruption have been made. The original resolution . by Senator Norris, Progressive Republican from Nebraska, Ne-braska, proposing inquiry into the coni-paigns coni-paigns where Senator Penrose was reelected re-elected from Pennsylvania and Eoger Sullivan was defeated by Senator Sherman, Sher-man, Republican, in Illinois, was adopted, but at the insistence of Republicans Re-publicans on the committee it was amended to authorize similar investigation investi-gation into anv such charges from other states. Chairman Kern said tbe committee's com-mittee's recommendations would be put at once before the senate. Senator Sutherland, Republican, offered of-fered an amendment specifically naming nam-ing Alabama, Indiana, California and South Dakota, but it was rejected and tho amendment was made to. provide for inquiry into campaign expenditures in "any other states which evidence brought before the committee may justify." jus-tify." .should the senate adopt the resolution, resolu-tion, the inquiry probably would be conducted during a recess of congress. |
