Official notico of tho resignation resigna-tion could' not bo had from tho governor's gover-nor's office yesterday because of the absenco of tho chief executive, who is now in Washington, D. C. Mr. Done resigns re-signs to accept the management of a now department with tho Pacific Board of Fire Underwriters. Tho department will be devoted, to publicity, conservation conserva-tion and legislation, and was especially created for Mr. Done, who will have Ins office in Saa Francisco. Mr. Done has .been in the state insurance insur-ance department since April 20, 1000, when he was appointed assistant commissioner com-missioner by Governor Spry, and servod under Commissioner George B. Squires. 1 On December 1. 1000, Mr. Done was made acting commissioner owing 10 ine illness of Mr. Squires, and continued in that capacity until September 30, 1910, when Mr. Squires -died. Mr. Done succeeded suc-ceeded to tho comnussioncrship, and upon up-on the expiration of his term was reappointed- bv the governor. His present term would have expired' on Peoruary 28. 1917. Mr. Done was reluctant to discuss his resignation yesterday, saying that, he felt tho announcement should, properly com from Governor Spry. During his tenure of office Mr. Done has made a host of friends, and' as lie, himself pnts it some enemies. Publicity has heen a hobby with the commissioner and it is said "that his work of this character was what first attracted the attention of the insurance underwriters. Mr, Done has always taken a great deal of interest in Life work of insurance insur-ance departments throughout tho country, coun-try, and at the present time is the vice president of the National Association of Insurance commissioners, and would have been chosen to the presidency of that organization at its next convoutiou. |
