Show Improvements Planned at Holy Cross Hospital Will Cost $150,000 ' g & J& at New Wing Is to Be Added and an Additional Story Will Be Erected 1 PROSPECTUS QF PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS AT THE HOLY CROSS HOSPITAL, Contracts Have Been Let and Work Will Be Completed by Next Fall. AT AN approximate cost of $150,-000, $150,-000, additions and improvements aro to be made at the Holy Cross hospital this year, tho work to be completed by early fall under the direction of Architect B. O. Mecklenburg. Mecklen-burg. Tho betterments include a new wing on the east end of tho prosont. building, the addition of a third story to tho west wing and remodeling of the present structure. For the purpose of giving to this now work the benefit of his observations, Mr. Mecklenburg recently made an extensive exten-sive trip to examine into the modern features embraced in the best hospitals of the coimtrj, aud he says that the plans adopted by tho Holy Cross officials offi-cials include the very latest in the most advanced systems. To Be Strictly Modem. The foundation of the now work is to bo of cut brownstono, and the superstructure super-structure is to be of concrete, steel and stone, with red brick facings and gray sandstone and terra cotta trimmings. Between the new construction and the old building fireproof doors are to be used, while in the interior of the entire structure the most modern fire escapes are to bo installed to facilitate removal re-moval of patients in case of necessity. The floors aro to be of cement, with hardwood covering, and the door and window openings and interior trimmings aro to be of quarter-sawed Tvhitooak. In tho matter of sanitary appliaucos the last word in progress ih to be adopted, including extra large drain pipes, superior ventilation, " vacuum cleaning plant, modern steam heating, a heated screen and glass porch on the north side, two big sun parlors on the south side, tile floors and marble partitions par-titions in lavatories and bathrooms, and a new ambulance entrance which will permit of handling patients with the greatest expedition and the least inconvenience in-convenience or discomfort. In the electric installations are to be included indirect lighting, reading lights over beds, modern signal svstom, electric dumb waiters, and electric elevators, with all the wiring in conduits. con-duits. Tho entire third floor of the west wing will be devoted to operating, X ray, preparation, sterilizing and recovery recov-ery rooms, with laboratory and other ' accessories, and all are to" be of the highest tyne of sanitary arrangoraent and furnishing. Big Assembly Room. In the new basement is to bo an assembly as-sembly room 40 by 80 feet, in dimensions, dimen-sions, and especial attention i-- being paid to the lighting of this, so that it will be rendered as nearly liko outer daylight as modern science 'can make it. The plumbing is to be of the down -to-date type, the finishings to bo in vitreous china and inarblo, and tho piping system of sucji ample capacity as to avoid any possible congestion through overtaxing. Already the work of excavation has been commenced by P. O. Marron, and tho contract for tlie steel work has been lot to J. .T. Burky & Co. The balance bal-ance of the work will be let within the coming two weeks Present arrangements are that the work shall be completed by enrly next fall.
