Stevenson,., the 16-months-old son of Robert nnd JSuphema Stevenson, Steven-son, 710 Downlngton avenue, was drowned at 5:-in o'clock yesterday afternoon after-noon in an irrigation stream two fect deep and three feet wide, at the corner of Downlngton avenue and Seventh East street, between Eleventh and Twlfth South. The child had wandered away from his plnymates and was hidden In the ditch beforo being- mlssod. It Is believed that he stepped rather than fell Into the water, as he took delight In wading at every opportunity. David Stevenson, aged 5 years, reported to his aunt. Mrs. C. Goldlng. that lie could not find his little lit-tle brother, whom he had boen wheeling in a gocart a short time before. A search was begun. Beryl Gray, 11 years of age, was the first to sco the hluo apron of the babe as the body was rolled along by tho current. cur-rent. Walter Gray, a florist at 1S01 South Seventh East, was nearby and took the body out of the stream. The child was dead. The baby's father had arrh'crt home a few minutes previously and saw Mr. Gray lifting the body of hla little son from tho water. Mr, Stevenson Is employed em-ployed ns a lineman by the Utah Light & Railway company. James was the sixth child of Mr. and Mrs. Stevenson and was tho pet of tho neighborhood. Tho body Is at the home being prepared for burial by Undertaker Joseph W. Taylor. Tay-lor. Arrangements for tho funeral have not yet been made. |
