Show OESPOiEITIOILL MI KILLS HIMSELF ML J. Lane Fires Bullet Through His Mouth Into the Brain. I Locking himself in his room at the 'Linden hotel, M. J. Lane, V,0 years of age. a bartender at the Annex saloon, 270 South .Main street, committed suicide sui-cide ycttorday afternoon by liring a revolver re-volver bullet into his brain through the roof of his mouth. Despondency over ill health is said to have been the cause. Lime made careful inquiry of a friend Thursday morning concerning the suicide of .J. W. Skinner, who was found dead in his office iu the Continental Conti-nental bank building last Saturday morning. SUinuer was shot through the mouth, the bullet emerging at the top and back of the head. Lane s wound was verv similar. The bullet shattered the slaifl at the back of the head and stopped under the scalp The failure of Lane to appear loi dutv al 0 o'clock last night led to the discovery of the suicide. After calling by tclojihonc without result, Hurry Anderson, porter at the Annex saloon, went to the Linden hotel. The door of Lane's room was found locked and was opened by the clerk. The body was lving face downward with the revolver re-volver under it. The police were notified no-tified and Dr. Spraguo and Coroner JIarry S. Harper summoned. Patrolmen ..I. C. and V. C. Anderson were sent from headquarters to investigate. A note left bv Lane and addressed to Elmer Dittmnn, bartender at the Scm-loh Scm-loh hotel, was regarded as conclusive evidence of suicide. It read: I'Viend Elmer: Please notify my brother-in-law, G. M. Stokes, 2842 "East Seventh street, Kansas City, Mo Tic a good rope around the old' trunk before you send it back home, aud oblige, your old friend, LANE. He caino to Salt Lako last September and was known for his cheerful disposition, though suffering sorio lv from diges-tive diges-tive disorders. He uaa uoticeably ill when he went to the Annex bar yestcr-da3' yestcr-da3' morning at o'clock. Ho offered no explanation, however, as to why he was uot at his room asleep and nothing noth-ing more was thought of it until he failed to appear for the night shift at 5 o 'clock. Tho body was removed to the Qual-trough-Allcott undertaking rooms, where it will be held until word is received re-ceived from tho brother-in-law in Kau-sas Kau-sas City. Lano was a member of tho Denver lodge of j,he Loyal Order of Moose. |
