Show SCHOOL C08CEHT 15 HGHLY SUCCESSFUL Eight Hundred Pupils of City School Delight Large Audience. Eight hundred little children singing, their sweet trcblo ringing pure and dear that was the feature of tho concert con-cert given by die public school children at the tabernacle last night. It was an impressive success. Moro than 0000 persons attended', thus insuriug in a large measure the financial expectations expecta-tions of those who arranged it. The concert was given to swell tho funds for the entertainment of the National Education association next .July. Most of the numbers on the programme pro-gramme wero songs by tho great chorus of children from the third and fourth grades of tho city schools, led by 'Professor 'Pro-fessor William A. Wet7.cll and accompanied accom-panied by Professor .T. J. McOlcllau at tho organ. Tho children formed a veritable ver-itable sea of pink faces that crowded the. vast choir loft and overflowed on oilhor side inlo the upper galleries of the tabernacle. They sang with all their hearts and with a truly remarkable remark-able unison. A lullaby selected from English folk song probably was fho finest thing the main chorus "sang", though the. most im-pressivo im-pressivo number was the "Star Spangled Span-gled Banner," which was sung with S00 small American flags fluttering over the heads of tho children. Much credit must bo givon Professor "Wctzcll for his wonderful leadership. The children wore under his control at all times. Their ayes were fixed unswervingly un-swervingly upon him, and his every gesture brought the proper response. It was a pretty picture the silver-haired silver-haired leader, sprightly as a boy himself, him-self, and his army of little songsters. An cxcollont number was that of the Russian lullaby, sung by tho eighth grade pupils of the Bryant school. Tn the training preparatory to the concort. all the eighth grades of tho city contested con-tested for the honor of singing this soug and tho Bryant won. Later in tho evening all the contesting choruses joined in a rendition of the same piece, and considering that they had never sung together before, it was remark-ablv remark-ablv well done. The high school glee club, led by Mrs. "Waldron, was encored twice for its Goblin Gob-lin song. Two songs by the Euterpe club, consisting con-sisting of fifteen women, wore woll received. re-ceived. Mrs. TV. A. "Wotzoll led the club. " Barcarollo," from tho "OKmes of Normandy," was given excellently by tho ninth grade class of tho Bryant preparatory school. |
