Sheriff Honry East and Deputy Sheriff Thomas Williams mado a raid on the drug storos horo this aftcrnon and arrested three of the proprietors out of tho four drug stores that aro in operation here. A. Chlpman of the American Fork Drug company, who received a sentence of 52o0 and sixty days from tho city today, to-day, was the flnst one taken by the nhcrlff. Lawrence Brlggs of the Brigga Pharmacy was the next and G. D. Char-Her Char-Her of the Thornton Drug company tho next, and David Ingcrsol. a private citizen, citi-zen, who it Is alleged has been doing ome boot-legging, the lauL They are all charged with the Illegal selling of Intoxicating In-toxicating liquor to two detectives that tho county had employed and who represented repre-sented themselves aa soliciting subscriptions subscrip-tions for Salt Lako dally newspapers. Each of the prisoners was taken beforo Justice Hunter and placed under $300 bonds to appear later and plead. "It Is understood that Sheriff East has a number ,of other casoa agalnBt theso same men and also more against a number num-ber of others. Alphonzo Chlpman, proprietor of the American Fork Drug company, was found guilty by a Jury In Judge Nlelson's court for colling Intoxicating liquor contrary to tho city ordlnanco and was fined $250 nnd sixty days In tho city Jail. Mrs. John Vclrs was tho city's main witness. The case will undoubtcdlv bo appealed. George D. Charller of the Thornton Drug company was also before the court and pleaded not guilty to the same charge His trial was set for next Wednesday. Wednes-day. Mr. and Mrs. William Chlpman were called upon to mourn the loss of their n-yoar-old daughter. Eliza, yesterday. Tho Utile girl had been a. patient sufferer suf-ferer for moro than a year with a complication com-plication of diseases, caused from a weak heart. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 1 o'clock- The funeral- services for Mrs. Man" Shelly were held In the First wTixd chapel yesterday afternon. Bishop Gardner Gard-ner presiding. A large turnout of friends were present. Interment was in tho city cemetery immediately following the services. |
